TOWING TERRAINS IN CROATIA AND SLOVENIA

Towing terrains must be chosen very carefully and someone might think that it is very easy to find an adequate terrain. It is not enough to find a spacious meadow that seems perfect for towing but you also have to consider the following elements:
 

also the closeness of rivers and lakes might be dangerous, especially when wind is not conveniently orientied to line of towing.

And last but not least, good towing terrain is the one that enables safe towing no matter how high altitudes are. That is why a new location must be planned and before you start with towing you must collect all information so the safeness is never questionable.

TERRAINS IN CROATIA AND SLOVENIA 

LOCATION 1 :
  "SAVA-ODRA" channel 

LOCATION:
10 km south of Zagreb - village Čehi - channel

ORIENTATION:
SE 100 – NW 280, 200 m ASL

L = 2000 m, B = 220 m

BE CAREFUL! Maximum 300 m because of nearness of airport

drawing out of a line is difficult due to a rough terrain

  BUŠEVAC - club aerodrome 

LOCATION:
20 km from Zagreb – V. Gorica – direction Buševac – aerodrome is on the left-hand side of the road before Buševac

  BJELOPLOLJE - LIČKA PLJEŠIVICA  

LOCATION:
166 km from Zagreb – Karlovac – direction Split, Korenica, approximately 3 km towards Gračac there is a huge flat field seen from the road

ORIENTATION:
Suitable for all wind directions

DIMENSIONS:
L = 2500 m, B = 1500 m

H = over 1000 m

NOTES:
2000 m of entirely flat asphalt road where traffic is very rare. Terrain is useful for "payout" system but the regulation of traffic is necessary.
This is definitely one of the best terrains for towing not only in Croatia but also in Europe.
These are some of its characteristics:
starting towing altitude is 600 m ASL
huge dimensions of a terrain
nearness of a ridge and it's highest point L. Plješivica (1600 m ASL)
terrain is known as extremely thermal
towing altitudes are maximal (1000 – 1500 m)
terrain is suitable for all kinds of towing
possibility for camping and cheap accommodation

LOCATION:
30 km north of Split – Solin – Klis – Sinj

ORIENTATION:
E – W

H = 300 m, runway is in the immediate vicinity of town

LK "Faust Vrančić" is the only Croatian club that bases almost all of it's activites on towing. Beside other kinds of towing they are specialized for so called "stationary towing". Their professional team is led by Stjepan Krajina and they also organize competitions in landing accuracy.
